Here are a few shots of the baby belly...

Grey's Birthday Party

This post is a little late but I just downloaded the pictures!
"I Dig Being 2"

We had a small family birthday party for Grevin this year. He woke up to his room full of balloons and he thought it was the coolest thing ever! He opened some presents first thing in the morning and continued to do so through the day. Granny Jo and Grandpa O were in town so they headed out to Grammie and Grandpa's house to celebrate with a yummy birthday dinner...and of course, Grey's other family, Michelle and Andrew were there to help party!

If you asked Grey what he wanted for his birthday, he would always answer birthday cake. Good thing Grammie did it in style. What else other than a backhoe tractor?? He loved it! He got all sorts of presents from clothes to a velcro baseball and mit, a scooter, and even a bike with training wheels from his Grandpa O. We had so much fun!
It is almost impossible to get a good pic of Andrew and Grey!

 Yummiest cake ever..thanks, Grammie!!

Good book with Grandpa O to end the day!

Bath Time!

That cord fell off after about 2 weeks and we dunked Zoe in the bath tub so fast! Those wash cloth baths just don't cut it with all these cute little baby rolls on her neck and thighs. Grey was so excited to help out and Zoe enjoyed showing us all her funny poses!

Zoe: One Month

Dear Zoe,
I am writing this letter to you as you are sleeping all curled up on my chest. One month has really flown by fast! I can't believe you are here but also feel like you have always been part of our family. It is amazing how fast we all fell in love with you. You already have all of us wrapped around your little finger especially your big brother!

Each day, you spend a little more time awake just watching the world go by. You love it when someone makes funny faces and talks to you, you have even started smiling back at them. You are a little bit of a momma's girl. If you are full and well rested, you will hang with others for awhile...but soon you are asking to snuggle up with momma again. Since you are probably our last child, I am soaking this up as much as possible! Your daddy wants us to introduce a bottle but I am being selfish and keeping you all to myself.

You are a great little sleeper. You are  sleeping with momma and daddy right now and will go 6 hours without waking up to eat. You like to snuggle into my side with your face almost in my arm pit! I try to get a shower every day just for this reason. You have not liked being swaddled at all. You get lots of gas and it seems to help when you can wiggle it out.

You love your baths even when your brother squirts you in the face with water. You love being naked most of all! You will lay on your mat happy as can be with just your diaper on. I can't wait for summer when we can do this all the time. As soon as I start taking off your clothes to change your diaper, you give me a big smile!

You have the funniest facial expressions. You are constantly making the silliest faces that make us all laugh. Of course you don't do them on purpose but we still can't help cracking up!

We love you so much and glad that you are here. You complete our family!

Lots and lots of hugs and kisses,
Momma & Daddy
Funny faces!
Not too sure about the giraffe!
Maybe it is not too bad...
Ok, we can use it every month to see her grow :)
Tried to take some naked pics and Grey wanted to help :)

Grey pedaling his bike!

Zoe Jae's Birth Story

One thing I learned this time around was that no two pregnancies or deliveries are the same! I don't know if it was from chasing Grevin around or as some say if you are having a girl, you fight over the same hormones...whatever it was, this pregnancy was more exhausting! Also, since Grey was 9 pounds 13 ounces, we kept an eye on the size this time around and I was told numerous times that this baby would not be nearly as big as Grey. I had lost 10 pounds during the first half of the pregnancy and only ended up a positive 10 pounds by the time Zoe decided to make her entrance. I was also told numerous times that second babies come early and come fast. Not in this case!!

Zoe's due date rolled around-Monday, February 21, 2011- and I was only dialated to 2 cm with no signs that she was coming any time soon. I ate lots of spicy food, went for lots of walks, had a pedicure, a massage, and tried just about anything other than castor oil since the doctors were talking inducement at just over a week over due.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, we thought my water had broken (ended up just being ALOT of cervical fluid-I didn't pee myself which was my second thought!). We headed into labor and delivery later that morning since contractions hadn't started. My midwife was on duty, confirmed it wasn't my water, and did a membrane sweep, I was 4 cm but with no contractions...sent us home and said she would see me by the end of the day to deliver our new little baby! Since it was the day before our anniversary, Zippy and I went out to brunch and to a movie as our anniversary date. My contractions started so we left Grey out at Grammie's for the night since it was storming and didn't want her to drive out in the rain in the middle of the night. Well, they didn't get very close or very intense so I slept on and off that night.

Friday morning, on our anniversary, we headed out to breakfast with Grey and Grammie then to the park. I was still having contractions, again not close or intense, and we figured today would be the day and again left Grey at Grammie's. My contractions never got closer than 6 minutes apart. I called labor and delivery and they said to come in when they were 5 minutes apart and more intense. With Grey, I had back labor so these contractions were nothing but annoying compared to them. I tried to go to bed that night and couldn't sleep well at all. I called labor and delivery again around 6 am and she repeated that there wasn't anything to do but wait it out and come in when they were 5 minutes apart. But to hurry then because baby would come fast. I broke down in tears at this point and she said I could come in and get checked. They would offer me morphine to sleep and go from there since I was so exhausted. I really didn't want this and she kept saying just to come in. I said that we would in a little bit.

Zippy and I went for more walks, contractions would get to 3 minutes apart as we walked but would go back to 6 minutes and would go away completely in the shower. It was frustrating!! One of our friends had her baby Friday so we decided it wouldn't be a wasted trip if we went to get checked and sent away. Around 2:30 pm on Saturday afternoon, we decided to head in again but didn't bring anything in with us because we assumed we would be turned away. They hooked me up to the monitors and around 5 pm, they checked me and I was 5 cm with the sac of waters almost ready to break so they admitted us!

We went to see our friend in post partum and visited her for about an hour before heading back to get my IV port in and finish the admittance process. They checked me again and I was 7 cm.  This was still with no change from Thursday in my contractions-intentsity or timing. The nurse was impressed I could still talk through the contractions and was thinking that I could easily have this baby without an epidural. If my labor had just started, I would have considered it but after 3 days of no sleep and annoying contractions, I asked for it before my water broke :) I want some comfort and rest! The doctor on rounds came in to evaluate me after he heard Grey was almost 10 pounds. He checked the size of the baby and said that baby was going to be big but not NEARLY as big as Grey was!

The epidural was in around 7:30 pm and Zoe was still pretty high so we just let my body do what it needed to do. I dialated to 9.5 cm by 9:30 so they broke my water and I was at 10 cm shortly after and ready to push. The midwife on duty just so happened to be the same one who delivered Grey. I started pushing at 10:30 pm and we started taking bets to how long it would take. I said 11:26 and the midwife said I would have a baby WAY before that. Well, we would have if this big girl didn't get stuck on my pelvic bone. She was stuck for over half an hour and I was afraid that I would end up with a c-section so we tried multiple positions and I pushed really really hard and she slipped under my pelvic bone. Zoe made her appearance at 11:47 pm!

The midwife immediately said that Zoe must be bigger than her brother was. She let us cuddle and nurse for awhile until she finally said that she just HAD to put her on the scale. With Grey I had no tearing and with her I ended up with 3rd degree tearing. Of course this made sense since she was 10 lbs 2 oz, almost 5 oz bigger than Grey and came alot faster even getting stuck for so long. I also hemorrhaged and lost alot of blood. Everyone was very concerned because they couldn't get it to stop. It finally slowed down after 2 bags of pitocin but I was not allowed to do anything for the first two weeks after birth since I was high risk to hemorrhage again.

Zoe has been such an amazing baby. She immediately latched on and has been a good eater ever since. She is a good little sleeper, too, she loves to curl up against my side in bed and will only wake once or twice to eat at night. She loves to cuddle and watch her brother run around. She really completes our family and it feels as if she has always been here.

Weighing in at 10 lb 2 oz!

Doctor Time! Grey: 2 years; Zoe:2weeks

I will apologize now for no pics but I am blogging from my phone.

We went in for check ups this week. I am so glad Zippy could go with me because Grey is so busy these days (imagine that!). I managed to get both through the parking lot and checked in but daddy came to the rescue just as we sat down to wait. Everyone is healthy and growing big, Gret loved showing off for the doctor and nurses!

Grey's stats:
Height: 36 in (exactly 3 feet!)
Weight: 31.5 pounds

Zoe's stats:
Height: just under 22 in
Weight: 10 lb 4 oz

Grey got his last set of vaccines until he goes to kindergarten and now just has to go back once a year now. Our doctor asked if he could still come to support Zoe since they are buddies :) Zoe's next appointment is her 2 month check up. Now that we finished Grey's shots, we get to start hers!!

Year 2 Letter to Grevin

Dear Grey,
How did we end up here already? TWO? Of course, if we ask you how old you are, you tell us three most of the time. Your daddy has always said you were advanced :) You are such a joy to be around, it is amazing to watch you grow.

You are always busy and doing something physical. Your favorite thing is to play in the hallway at our house(it has been pouring outside so we have moved most of our outdoor activities inside!). We play football, frisbee, catch with the balloon, soccer, and even ride our bike and scooter there. The week of your birthday, you figured out how to pedal your tricycle and now you zoom through the hallway and through the kitchen. You can even steer and ride it backwards. You think it is the coolest thing ever and you will spend hours just going in circles.

You are also an amazing ball thrower. So good that we probably shouldn't allow you to do it in the house anymore because you have such a strong arm. Luckily, you have good aim so we haven't broken anything yet! We had to teach you to say "Are you ready?' before you throw because you would just beam people when they least expected it.

You still love to be outside....all day if you could.  You love going for walks in the rain and splashing in puddles or finding leaves or walnut shells to send down the water in the road to the drain. You love to climb, swing, and slide. You ask every day to go to the park. You love to feed the ducks at the park by Grammies and love it when you go for walks with her to feed carrots to the donkey (because you like to sneak a carrot for yourself!).

You can entertain yourself but you would rather be with people. You follow us around everywhere, making sure we aren't doing anything fun without you :) You are always helpful, helping with laundry, cleaning (you love to sweep so much I bought you your own handheld broom for your play kitchen), you like to put all of our shoes away, set the table, and push all the chairs in when we are done eating. I am not sure where you get this from, definitely not your momma or daddy!

Even though you are so physical, you are not a huge risk taker. You sit back with a very serious look on your face while you watch others do things that you don't know how to do. You won't even attempt doing something out of your comfort zone unless you know that you are capable of doing it. I hope you stay this way because with your physical capabilities, we would be in big trouble if you were a risk taker too!

One of the most amazing things though in the last few months is watching you become a big brother. You have taken on this role like you were born to be a big brother. You are so gentle and loving to your sister. Anytime she is awake and not wanting to eat, you ask to hold her. You could sit calmly forever with her on your lap until she starts to cry. Then you ask me to take her and give her "momma's milk". You are very thoughtful with her and give her lots of kisses, gentle touches, and make sure she is happy. I love watching you take on the role as her big brother, it suits you so well!

You are growing into such an amazing person with such enthusiasm for life. We are so lucky to be on this journey with you watching you grow!!

Love forever,
Momma & Daddy

Sibling Love

It was love at first sight. Grey absolutely adores his sister and wants to hold her any chance he gets. He can be running around like the crazy boy that he is and when he sees ZJ, all I hear is "Grey hold baby ZJ". He will run to the couch, grab the pillow and sit calmly forever if I let him as long as it means he can hold baby ZJ. As soon as she starts to fuss, he looks at me and says "ZJ wants momma's milk" and tries to hand her to me. That is about the only way we can convince him to let her go! I am hoping this infatuation continues for many years to come :)
